Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique, and introducing Dr Tempel!

March 2023 Newsletter

Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique (CMRT)

Yes, finally finding time for another newsletter! We wanted to make you aware of a new technique for which Dr Leonard has completed training.

First, as of last week, Dr Leonard has completed her Advanced Chiropractic Certification.  Her certificate is number 33 so she’s in elite company.  This advanced certification is akin to board certification which doesn’t yet officially exist for vet chiro.  It involved many hours of additional classes beyond basic, a research project and presentation,  presenting two case studies, and observation of a human chiropractor at work.  You can be assured when your pet receives chiropractic here, they are getting the best of care!

Second, the purpose of this newsletter is to introduce you to CMRT, or Chiropractic Manipulative Reflex Technique.  This is a neurology and soft-tissue based therapy intended to help diagnose and treat deeper chronic underlying organ or gland dysfunction, or perhaps to help prevent problems in certain breeds predisposed to particular conditions.  CMRT balances the nervous system, improves circulation, and encourages normal organ and gland function. The procedure is complex with many steps so if you see Dr Leonard using her reference materials be assured it’s just as a checklist to make sure all procedures are followed.

A treatment begins with a full chiropractic exam so all subluxations are corrected. The pet must be cooperative, and willing to relax lying on their side for the rest of the therapeutic techniques.  Dr Leonard will find which Occipital fibers feel inflamed at the base of the skull, examine for corresponding nodules or sensitivity in other locations, then perform techniques to normalize function based on which systems are thus indicated.

Conditions which may call for CMRT include:

  • Cushing’s/Addison’s/hypothyroidism
  • Heart disease or predisposition
  • Chronic liver or gall bladder disease
  • Chronic kidney failure
  • Chronic diarrhea or constipation/excess GI gas/megacolon in cats
  • Immune issues
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Anemia
  • Edema of legs or fluid buildup in abdomen
  • Asthma/Chronic bronchitis
  • Gastric reflux, chronic vomiting, poor appetite
  • Reproductive issues/prostate enlargement/low sperm count
  • Bladder problems/chronic or repeated infections/cystitis

This treatment is performed at either a one-hour appointment or as a dropoff.  If your pet hasn’t had a physical exam at our office in the last 6 months we will do that first, then chiropractic, then the CMRT protocol.  Depending on the pet’s issues we may also want to do bloodwork, a urine check, x-rays, or other procedures to be sure their condition is one CMRT may help, so two separate visits may be required in order to gather all necessary information.

If your pet has had chronic issues that just don’t seem to resolve, give us a call to set up an appointment!

Finally, we’d like to introduce Dr Amy  Tempel!  Dr Tempel is a relief vet recently moved to the area from California. She’s been working some shifts with Dr Leonard, is trained in chiropractic, and is starting her acupuncture training.  Please say yes if your pet needs routine care, chiropractic, or minor ailments checked and you are offered an appointment with her.  Dr Leonard needs some days off, Dr  Tempel will fill in on some Fridays when we might not otherwise have a vet, and having her here allows us to schedule more patients!  We appreciate that you like Doc Sandi, but please be willing to give Dr Tempel a chance for routine visits!
